Oct 27, 2007: Biologists are reporting an increasing number of dead
winged invertibrates, mostly waterfowl, such as loons, ducks, gulls and
grebes. The creatures, on their way to their winter homes in the United
States, are dying in record numbers along the way. Wildlife Services are
trying to understand why these mass die-offs are occuring now. One
wonders if they are an indication of increasing toxins in the environment
or somehow related to the effects of global warming.
Oct 31, 2007: You don't have to be alive to be a guardian angel. 3
year-old Kate Williams, whom her grandfather called "Super Kate", was
taken from the wreckage of a plane on Sunday, after hanging from her seat
for hours. She had been strapped into a child's car seat, before the
flight, by her grandfather, the pilot. The plane, nose down and turned
over into the icy water, at the edge of a river, held the bodies of her
grandfather and a passenger, both of Edmonton. All Kate received was a
black eye and a few scratches. Said her mother: "Because he did that,
Kate is here and with us today."
